Maize mitts… or a variation of

When I was recently looking through my hand-spun yarn stash, I picked out some fiber dyed by Three Waters Farms that I spun into a lovely 2 ply. I believe I have close to 800 or so yards between 6 skeins. The fiber is a mixture of Polwarth wool and silk and let me tell…

Knitting and Crocheting and Spinning…Oh my!

I’d say that over the past few months or so, knitting, crocheting, and spinning have consumed a greater portion of my time so much so that I have been able to finish 4 unique color samples of my gradient yarns that I’m in collabo over with a LYS, I’ve been able to put a huge…

Hand spun

This hand spun was spun out of batlings in colorway “Nebula” made by Hobbledehoy that I picked up while at the November 17, 2013 Indie Knit & Spin held in the Wilkins School Community Center in Pittsburgh. I also purchased this lovely project bag from Wren & Rita.

Shop Update

I have a mini shop update available at my Etsy shop. Available are a new hand-spun by me in a thick/thin yarn hand-dyed by Frabjous Fibers in colorway Tourmaline, 2 skeins of hand-dyed yarn in my sock base in colorway Radio Active, and 1.8 ounces of hand-dyed superwash BFL roving in colorway Fright Night.

On the bobbin

Here is what I’m currently spinning on my Sidekick: This fiber is from Yarn Hollow’s sampler tin spinner’s feast that I purchased a few weeks ago from Natural Stitches. What drew me to buying the tin was seeing it Navajo or Chain plied at Natural Stitches. It looked amazing and felt great on the skin…

Yarn Cakes

I don’t usually wind my skeins into cakes but I have the capability to do so and after finishing up the Polwarth/Silk fiber in color way New House (dyed by the fabulous Three Waters Farm), I liked it in skeins but I thought why not wind them into cakes? These will go live for sale…

My oh my ! My 2 ply…

My 8 ounces of Polwarth/Tussah Silk is finally all spun up! I started plying last night. I decided I wanted to preserve the potential yardage I could attain by 2 plying the yarn and that is exactly what I did. I’m very pleased that I took my time spinning this so that it could relax…

Sugarplum Mist hand spun, hand dyed

Here is a yarn that I spun as thick and thin / slub and hand dyed. I pre-soaked the wool and kettle dyed it using Wilton Gel Food Colors. Overall, I’m very pleased with how it turned out. I love how it is pastel-y blue and purple. Those two colors and a little help from…

First Bloom hand spun

Here is my finished hand spun in colorway First Bloom all finished and up for sale in my Etsy shop. It is 3 ply worsted, 185 yds., and is a Polwarth/Silk mix.

Some more hand-spun almost done

Here is my just 3 ply Polwarth/Silk hand-dyed from Three Waters Farm fresh off the Niddy Noddy. It is colorway First Bloom. The 4 ounce braid yielded about 185 yds. I always subtract 5 yds. From the actual calculated amount of yds. So, it was actually just about 190 yds. initially. I’d call it worsted…
