My Manos roving has arrived!!!!

I was pleasantly surprised after coming home from visiting my in-laws to find that my package of new Manos roving arrived in the mail!

It is so beautiful looking and extremely soft. It is 100% Extra Fine Merino and is 3.5 ounces. The colorway based on Fairmount’s website and the tag on the braid appears to be Bramble RM9237.

I cannot wait to spin this up on my Sidekick!

Speaking of my Sidekick, it’s been making some weird whistle noise and then as I’m treadling, it becomes very hard to which I can’t treadle any longer. I checked the drive band and it was fine but it smelled like it was rubbing against something and caused friction. Strange? I’m pretty sure my Sidekick may need oiled but does anyone else know why that could be happening if it’s not due to not having oiled my wheel??

Well, I will leave you with this delicious picture of wool- enjoy!

  1. Ok..same exact noise on my sidekick. It was driving me batty, and can get really piercing! I tried breaking the wheel down all the way, wiping it, re-oiling it, etc. I finally took the flyer (I could tell the sound was primarily in the back, but not when I was plying…) and cleaned it with degreaser and then lightly oiled it. I also used a qtip with degreaser on the spots where put the flyer in. That was a week ago and it has been very quiet ever since. How long have you had yours? I though I had gotten some gunk in mine with all the fleeces I have been spinning…it was a little bit of a relief to see you post the same thing. Hope my solution works for you..

    1. Thank you- I will try that! I’ve only had mine since mid-March. How funny is that that we heard the same noise…And like you said it was ear piercing at times. But I will give that a go and let you know! Thanks 🙂

  2. I’m so glad that worked for you!! Let’s hope it lasts for both our wheels. I’ve had mine for a year and a half..it’s still got a lotta life in it!
