A trip to Jo-Ann’s & Debbie Bliss S/S 2013

I ran to Jo-Ann fabrics this afternoon to purchase some items for a bridal shower basket I am making for my friend’s wedding in June. The wedding is in Bald Head Island, NC and the shower is tomorrow.

The shower is held locally and each of us bridesmaids made a basket. The idea is that when Michelle opens her shower gifts, a timer is set and when it goes off, whosever gift she opened at that time, that person will win a basket.

Originally, I was going to go with a basket of Italian goodies (Italian is half my heritage), but I decided at the last minute to do a basket of cupcake and cake decorating items.

Now of course I wanted to do a knitting/crocheting related basket, but I
had no idea if anyone going to the shower knitted. But man, if anyone did and I knew of it, I would have made a pretty bad ass basket!!!

Anyhow, I also picked up the new spring/summer issue of Debbie Bliss Knitting Magazine.

I really enjoy her magazine and its vintage character. There seems to be a lot of cute patterns, some of which I would make and wear. I especially like the headband with the brooch on the cover. It looks simple enough to bang out in a few hours.

And I also wanted to buy some Wilton cake icing gels. I found a nice variety box of 12 colors for $14.99 and I had a 50% off coupon. Score! I plan on dyeing up some skeins and fiber using these. We’ll see how they turn out.

Right now, I have 8 ounces of Ecru roving and I can’t wait to dye it.

So many things to do and so little time.

Totally off the subject, but, I really want to put my dream of owning my own knitting shop into fruition. One day soon I hope!!! I’d love to be able to leave the job I’m at to live out my dream. Although I am totally gratefully for the job I have now, but I’ve always wanted to own my own business. And being that I have such a passion for knitting and yarn crafting, why not?
I know it will be tough and that most small business owners devote all of their time to their business – most of which I don’t have a problem with – but I just feel like why not do something you love and would live waking up to do ?

But for the time being, I’d really like to continue on improving my Etsy shop and building my inventory.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! !
