My mom and I went to the Pittsburgh Knit & Crochet Festival today and it turned out to be a blast and a rather costly endeavor.
Costly in the sense that I bought a spinning wheel amongst other purchases such as a crocheting DVD by Robyn Chachula, a book about spinning, some hand-dyed yarn by Fibernymph, a lazy Kate, a knitty knoddy, 1lb natural roving for dying, and hand-dyed roving.
I have to say the last time I spent that kind of money all at once was last November when I picked up the new iPad 4.
But anyway, I don’t regret my purchases for a minute. After having spent a couple weeks spindling on a drop spindle, I knew it would be a matter of time before I invested in a wheel. Luckily at the show today, this lovely woman Susan from Susan’s Fiber Shop in Columbus, WI sat me down at the Schacht Sidekick and gave me the lowdown on the wheel. I have to say I was a little surprised at the price, however, I did prep myself ahead of time. I knew going into this that they weren’t cheap. Susan was nice to also give me $25 off of the wheel. So after literally 2 hours of playing on this wheel, I purchased it. Susan basically gave me a lesson from how to put it together and fold it away to a couple different spinning styles and plying – even Navajo plying at the end.
I’ve had time tonight to play on the wheel and I’m already getting better at it.
Here are some pics from the festival:
Tomorrow I’ll be posting pics of what I purchased.
